Ms. Susan Stewart

Ms. Ashby is a prek-5th grade music educator at Oakdale STEAM Elementary school in the Rock Hill County School District. This is her 26th year of teaching music in SC public schools. She received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a vocal performance certificate from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) in 2001, and a Master of Education from Columbia College in 2007. Ms.Ashby is also the director of music ministries at Mount Holly Methodist Church in Rock Hill. She was the assistant conductor of the RHSD Elementary Honors Choir from 2019-2026, which was the only elementary choir chosen to perform for the state SCMEA Conference in February of 2025. Ms. Ashby has taught at every grade level K-12, including Middle and High school chorus. She now lives in Waxhaw with her fiance, her two wonderful children, Gavin and Macey, and her cat, Neko. Susan is Kodaly certified, and has won a number of teaching awards and grants. She is a Donors Choose Ambassador, a Class Dojo Ambassador, a member of SCMEA, Sigma Alpha Iota, and the Palmetto State Teachers Association. She loves teaching music to all ages, and believes that everyone should have access to a high quality music education!
